Welcome to Colony Art.  We are a gallery unique in the northwest, selling works by leading artists and the best emerging talent.

Miranda Richmond was born in Buckinghamshire and graduated from University of Bristol in 1980. In 1979 she met and later married the painter Miles Richmond. She moved to North Yorkshire and lived and worked at Rounton Studios, The Motorhouse, East Rounton from 1983–94. She taught in Summer Schools at the Motorhouse with David Seaton and Miles Richmond, and in 1994 moved to Middlesbrough where she has a studio.

Miranda has taught in adult education and art therapy in the North-East.

Her works are usually produced on location, which enables a direct and immediate response to the subject. The lineage through to Bomberg via Miles Richmond is evident, but Miranda’s personal and individual vision creates some of the most interesting and superb works we have had in the gallery.

Winter Afternoon Anglesey 1984 - Mike Knowles

New work, new artists, new exhibition, new website … It’s all go round here!

Our current Spring/Summer show is something we are very proud of. Seven artists whose works are new to the gallery, including names like Leon Kossoff and Miranda Richmond.  We think this will rank as one of the best exhibitions in the North West this year.
